Julia Neiva is Senior Brazil, Portugal & Portuguese-speaking Africa Researcher & Representative for the Business & Human Rights Resource Centre and PhD candidate, University of Sao Paulo. She is a human rights lawyer, advocate and researcher. Her commitment to human rights led her to fight against social inequalities and all forms of oppression, with a special focus on gender and race, from an early age. For over 18 years, she has been supporting the work of human rights defenders and affected communities, has given many human rights courses and worksops in Brazil, Latin America, and Africa and other regions. Julia is one of the founders of Conectas Human Rights and the Human Rights and Business Working group of FGV Law School in Brazil. She worked at the Polis Institute, African American Policy Forum; Human Rights Clinic at Columbia Law School; and the Center for Reproductive Rights. She was educated at Columbia Univ. School of Law (LLM, human rights focus); Univ. of São Paulo Law School (graduate specialisation in human rights); Pontifical Catholic Univ. of São Paulo (Bachelor of Law).
